District News
To : All Rotarians
From : DG YC Ho
Dear All Rotarians,
In this week we will have our annual Rotary HK Ultra Marathon on 24 March. Thank you all for the support, not only in this run, but also for the Carnival that takes place next to it and the Gala Night in the same evening.
There are many new things added this year. This is also our main perspective to bring our annual event to another higher level of achievement.
Here I must thank Chair PP Dominic CHU and all of his dedicated OC members that without any single one of these unsung heros, there won’t have RHKUM this year.
My heartfelt thank to all OC members, all participants and all sponsors.,
Best ,
Rotary District 3450
RY 2018-19.
The current District Nominating Committee (DNC), governed by the District Resolution RC/1-2014 has been in full practice since RY 2014-15.
The followings are the main Principles reflected by our current practice:
1.    No authorised screening process for Governor Candidates:
So far as the Governor Candidates meet the RI requirement of being a Governor Candidate, there is NO authorised body nor group of Rotarians that have been assigned with the statutory authority to screen out any Governor candidate(s) from joining the Selection Meeting of our DNC.
Pre-Q is not mandatory for Governor Candidate, nor has it been assigned with such screening power. It is an advisory interview that helps our Governor Candidates to understand better own strengths or weaknesses related to Rotary.
In RI Bylaws, there is no such clause that has authorised any District body or committee or group of Rotarians with the power to screen out any Governor Candidates from joining the Selection Meeting of the DNC.
2.   Wide representation from our Rotarians from each area:
There are three groups of members that constitute our DNC, the PP and non-PP members from each area, and the PDGs. This covers a wide range of representation in our District.
3. Each vote of the voting member of DNC is counted equally as 1 vote:
There is no such ‘super’ vote among the voting members of DNC that to be counted with more weight than the others.
Each is counted as 1 equally important vote.
4.  No forced vote by any member of DNC:
According to RI requirement, Each voting member ‘Select The Best Available Candidate’ for the future of our District.
The voting member votes according to his or her judgment after listening to the presentation of each Governor Candidate.
He or she does not and should not regard to whatsoever if any ‘prior instruction’ from anyone and does not have to and should not also ‘report’ his or her choice to anyone afterwards.
This also applies to the area PP or non PP voting member from each area.
In fact when there is such prior overt or implied indication or ‘order’ or suggestion or message by whatsoever means conveyed, such may high likely contradict RI Bylaws against any Convassing, campaigning or lobbying in any kind of election in Rotary.
Thank you all Members of DNC in this year that have paid their dedicated hard work to have selected our future Governor. We did have completed the task later than 9:30pm with empty stomachs in all.
Thank you again.

Rehabilitation International Asia & Pacific Regional Conference

26 (Wed) to 28 (Fri) June 2019, Macau

Rehabilitation International (RIG), founded in 1922, is a global organization and network that empowers persons with disabilities and provides sustainable solutions toward achieving a more inclusive society for them.  It has much linkage with Rotary.  Edgar Allen, the founding president of National Society for Crippled Children (forerunner of RIG) was a Rotarian in Ohio, USA.  The rehabilitation movement in the early days was attributed to the support of Rotary Clubs. Paul Harris was to call the “crippled children movement the most illustrious offspring of Rotary.” Paul Harris himself served as the first Chairman when International Society for Crippled Children (now RIG) was established in 1922.

To celebrate the journey together over the past 100 years, a plenary session during the Rehabilitation International Asia & Pacific Regional Conference is dedicated to showcase the rehabilitation service projects that Rotary Clubs in District 3450 have carried out.  DG YC Ho will be moderating the session.  We are now calling for club presidents and Rotarians to participate in conference and the plenary session.
