The Rotary District 3450 Preserve Planet Earth Coast Watch Team had successfully completed a beach survey and cleanup at the Shek O Back Beach for the Coastal Watch Project organised by the WWF Hong Kong in a hot and sunny afternoon on August 16, 2014. The 31-member team, consisted of Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends coming from the Rotary Club of City Northwest HK, Rotary Club of Hong Kong, Rotary Club of Hong Kong South, Rotaract Club of Hong Kong and Rotaract Club of HKUSU, was guided by Team Scientist, Miss Shirley Chan, a geography major student at the Baptist University, Lead Partner, Ms Nissa Marion from Ecovision Asia’s HK Cleanup and project coordinator, Mr Patrick Yeung, from the project organiser, WWF Hong Kong during the site action. The team had conducted 3 surveys namely micro debris and macro debris, surveying on tiny and relatively larger contaminants in the sand and an ecological survey, which finds out the type and number of living species on the beach.
