Organ Donation, Thankyou
Dear Presidents and District Leaders,
It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I am writing to inform you that the first ever Rotary Octopus Card launched at the ceremony held on 1st June 2013 has received overwhelming response from all sectors. Reports of the media (8 newspapers and several radio and TV channels) all carry positive remarks further fostering the interest of the community in engaging with organ donation. I would like to take this opportunity to send you my heartiest thanks for your unfailing support without which the event would not have been as successful as it had been.
The favorable response from the community is best reflected by some hard figures. Immediately after the ceremony, we had more than 400 persons registered as organ donors through either on-line registration using the computer facilities provided on-site or filling out registration forms on the spot. Furthermore, our Rotary Information Centre has received numerous enquiries and orders for the Rotary Octopus Cards since the launching ceremony. By now the first batch of 2,000 Rotary Octopus Cards have all been sold out, and we have outstanding orders for 900 cards made by phone calls or visitors to RIC. We have put these outstanding orders on the waiting list. There are still many other phone calls wishing to place orders which our RIC colleagues have not yet had the time to reply.
Our next step will be to re-print more Rotary Octopus Cards as soon as possible to meet the community’s demand. Among the orders received, actually quite a number are requests for cards to be used by the elderly and students. We will liaise with the Octopus Card Limited to see if such demand could also be met fairly soon.
Notwithstanding the above, I have ensured that orders placed for the Rotary Octopus Cards by your club, other than those already collected by your club members who joined the launching ceremony on 1 June 2013, would all be honored before the new cards to be re-printed are available, subject to settlement of payment for the cards. Kindly note that the cards can be used once you have stored money in it in the usual way as you have done for any Octopus cards.
No doubt you would agree that we should continue to strive to enhance the advocacy of organ donation in the community through promoting our Rotary Octopus Cards, so that more people who need organ transplant to overcome their health problem will benefit. I am sure that through our concerted efforts, Rotary District 3450 will be able to make a difference to the promotion of organ donation not only in Hong Kong, but also in other communities. I look forward to your continual support and advice in this regard.
Once again, my heartiest thanks!
Yours in Rotary
