Dear Rotarians,

The 8th Music@Youth, signature project sponsored the Rotary Club of Hong Kong North and Caritas Hong Kong ended successfully last Sunday. The aim of the project is to provide a free platform to local young musicians to perform their original music in public. The theme this year is Dare to Sing, Sing Your Dream. The project is run by Rotaract Club of Hong Kong North, Rotaract Club of New Asia College (CUHK), Interact Club of Sau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School and Interact Club of Munsang College (Kowloon). Over 40 Rotaract and Interact volunteers took part on the day.

The event must be blessed as the weather was sunny and bright throughout the day. This year we were honored to be able to invite famous signer Ms. Yuen Fung Ying, Shirley (袁鳳英老師), Hong Kong Drum Maestro Mr. Eddie Tang (鄧志和先生) and Ms. Winnie Tang (鄧晴羽小姐) as panel judges. We also had Rotary International District 3450 Governor Eugene Fong, Deputy Chief Executive of Caritas Hong Kong Fr. Joseph Yim, Hong Kong Chinese University – New Asia College Head Professor Henry N.C. Wong, Sau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School Principal Mr. Tang Kai Chak, Munsang College Kowloon Principal Ms. Kuby Chan, RID 3450 Rotaract Chairman Silva and RID 3450 Rotaract Representative B.Y. as VIP to kick-off the big day.

Many of HKN’s Rotarians and family have participated and witnessed the success of the event. Several Rotarians from other clubs also dropped by to witness this signature project of our Youth. There were 20 bands selected out of 80 participated in the event. Many members who attended would agree the quality of the bands this year have indeed improved a lot. Mr. Tang and Ms. Yuen were really fascinated by our event and volunteered to be judges again next year. I remember Mr. Tang said to the contestants that Music@Youth is the stepping stone for their music to go public. The event does have better recognition than eight years ago. Let’s not forget to give a big round of applause to the Rotarian who started all this – none other than our beloved PP August. It is most impressive to see that our Rotaractors and Interactors have delivered such a quality event. Yes, like every year there were hiccups during OC Meetings. But isn’t this all part of a great learning process? I still remember all the smiling faces from our Rotaractors and Interactors. A big thank you to Chairman Angus (RacNA) and his OC members. It is most rewarding when seeing our youth gain so much  experience through organizing events such as this. It definitely gives us the motivation to encourage youth in Hong Kong dare to dream and live their dreams. Hope to see you all again next year.

Yours in Rotary,

Nigel Lo
