by District Secretary (Committees) Gary Yeung, DCYPP Convener

The DCYPP was successfully held on 10 August 2013 with the participation of over 65 District Officers, Presidents, Rotarians and some Rotaract volunteers.

The event was held in the Church of Christ in China (CCC) Rotary Secondary School (中華基督教會扶輪中學) at 157 Lung Cheung Road, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon. The school was set up, initially as a pre-vocational school, in September 1972 with the financial support of the Rotary Club of Kowloon West. The Church of Christ in China is the school’s management body. Now it is a co-educational school with over 900 students. We are proud to see the association of Rotary with this fine school.

The DCYPP was a whole day seminar held from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm with a fellowship lunch at a nearby restaurant in Lok Fu Shopping Centre. Due to time constraints, we had a rather packed programme. Other than the opening and closing remarks by DG Eugene Fong, there were 13 speakers covering 18 different topics. The topics were of a good variety relating to District Committees’ work, such as : District PR, the ONE award scheme, Enhancing Member Experience Coordination Board, RI & District Awards, collaboration with PolyU on Service Learning, Government Relations, District legal and protocol matters, District Secretariat tasks, District training and education matters, Guangdong Extension, Asia-Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference, Membership Development & Extension, District Rotary Foundation, Rotary Adopt A School scheme, District Organ Donation, Poverty Alleviation, District Rotaract Committee, and Vocational Service.

After returning from lunch and before the start of the afternoon session, we also had the opportunity to hear the CCC Rotary Secondary School’s short presentation on its activities. The audience was thrilled to see the performance by a student of the School. He was a champion in a “Yo Yo” contest. His exciting ‘Yo Yo’ performance had kept our audience awake even after a good lunch.

The DCYPP was held smoothly on 10.8.2013 and in accordance with the scheduled timings. As convener of this event, I was grateful for the assistance and support given by many District Officers, the CCC Rotary Secondary School, and the participation of District/Club Officers.

This was the first ever District-level seminar initiated by DG Eugene Fong, aiming to enhance communication between District Committees and District/Club Officers. It provided an opportunity for District Officers, in the early stage of the new term 2013-14, to better understand the District Committees’ work. In turn, this will help promote  team work between the District Committees and Clubs. We believe strong  team work will contribute towards the attainment of the District Priorities in 2013-14. In DG Eugene Fong’s words, the seminar has planted the seeds for closer collaboration among the District Committees and Clubs, and this will contribute significantly to District 3450’s future success.
