Rotary Thoughts / Sharing by CDS Eric Chin
During a service project visit of single mother in March 2012, who looked after an 8 years old daughter, told me that without the care from Services from Rotary, she had already committed suicide. Her statement stroke into my heart and validated the core value of Rotary: Service Above Self. Our care, in addition to our donation, would really help to build up the confidences of those who are underprivileged to face the challenges with proud.
My two years of International Service director in the club extended my horizon to work closely with our Sister Club in Japan in planning and executing Service projects to help the local children who were in sick. The Honorary Secretary duty enriched my experience in the club administration coupled with another year of President Elect whose duty brought me good preparation in leadership. The One Year President experience was an amazing and wonderful learning experience which absolutely opens my horizon in leadership and addressed in all areas of focus of Rotary.
Abraham Lincoln once stated that “Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality.” In Rotary, it will be an excellent platform for me to make it happen. Thus, in my year of President 2011-2012, I created a slogan: “Yes We Commit” to motivate commitment of my club members in fellowship, services and high ethical standards in business and professions. It works !
By active participation, one will discover Rotary will change your life !
